Shri Sudhir Nanavati

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce the first and most premier law college of Gujarat Law Society, indeed, of the state of Gujarat itself.

Sir L. A. Shah Law College was the first Law College in Gujarat, established in 1927 by the Gujarat Law Society. Its establishment was possible due to the mammoth efforts of its founders Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai and Shri Ganesh Mavlankar.

Initially affiliated with Bombay University, Sir L A Shah Law College was later permanently affiliated with Gujarat University after its formation in 1949. This is the flagship educational institute of Gujarat Law Society, which has since metamorphosized into a huge trust managing 34 different academic institutions ranging from kindergarten to post graduate courses across disciplines such as arts, commerce, law, and management and information technology.

The college also offers a Ph.D. Program in Law under the aegis of its own research center. In its march towards excellence with the mission to provide leadership in the legal education by example, Sir L A Shah Law College sources the contribution of renowned senior and experienced practicing lawyers as visiting faculty, thus ensuring that the standard of legal education is always of the highest level.

The college has a special focus on intensive practical training which is manifested in the Moot Court Competitions, Seminars, special lectures of renowned Lawyers, Judges and academicians that are organised regularly. It is a matter of pride for us that invariably every year, our students represent Gujarat University at the All India Moot Court Competition organized by the Bar Council of India. Facilitated by the rich library, excellent infrastructure and state-of-the-art class-rooms, students of L A Shah Law College excel at all the Examinations taken by the Gujarat University.
